Heat treatments

HARDENING AND TEMPERING

Hardening and tempering is a heat treatment which gives the treated part specific mechanical characteristics.
It consists in austenisation, hardening and tempering at high temperature.

ADVANTAGES:

Hardening and tempering has a variety of advantages depending on the type of steel:

  • Parts subject to heavy loads can be given an optimal combination of high strength, tenacity and, if possible, temperature resistance;
  • It obtains the best compromise between core structure and strength for successive surface treatments, like nitriding.
