TEMPERING

This treatment is applied to hardened parts to diminish the negative effects of hardening and give them the desired characteristics.

ADVANTAGES:

• Reduces the excessive rigidity and fragility of the steel due to hardening;
• Reduces unresolved stress in the steel due to sudden cooling;

The steel must be tempered as soon as possible after hardening.
This process is known as hardening and tempering.
